RICARDO RODRIGUEZ

The story
comes first.

Behind the camera / Ricardo Rodriguez

I’m Ric, a photographer and filmmaker from the Dominican Republic, now based in Providence, Rhode Island.

I always wanted to be involved in film. Commercial documentary gave that ambition a direction: telling stories about people and the businesses they build.

I work in photography and film. In both, the story guides what I choose to show and what I leave out.

Every business
has a human story.

The work

A business needs to communicate. What interests me is finding the people, decisions, and experiences that make its story worth paying attention to.

That is where I begin a collaboration: what do you want to say, who do you want to reach, and what can we show them that feels true to you?

That might mean following a product from raw material to finished piece, listening to a founder explain a decision, or documenting the work that customers rarely get to see. Together, we can choose the story and format that suit the audience.

Curiosity
takes me outside.

Away from the desk

Observation is the foundation of roughly 90% of my work. I follow what is already happening, without staging the action, directing people to pose, or intervening to create a moment for the camera. The same approach guides most of my photography.

Product and brand commissions, along with clearly posed portraits, are the exceptions: those images may call for a more directed approach.

I enjoy being out in nature: walking a trail, kayaking, and watching the life around me. The camera usually comes along.

I’m drawn to the landscape and to the people moving through it: someone pausing on a climb, checking their way, or taking in the view. Those small moments are part of the experience I want to capture.

Outdoor work brings together two things I care about: spending time in these places and telling stories about life within them.

I started
with spaces.

My background

Years leading architectural visualization teams shaped my attention to structure, precision, and consistency. I learned to think carefully about how an image communicates a space.

Photography brings that work into the real world: changing light, scale, and the way places are actually lived in. That background still informs how I compose a frame, whether I’m photographing a building or following a story outdoors.

A conversation comes first

Tell me
your story.

What do you make, who should see it, and what would you like them to understand? Tell me about your business, place, or project and where the photographs or film will be used.
